Since 1700, the town of Agullent has celebrated its most important event, part of the celebrations of the miracle of Saint Vincent Ferrer. It consists of a playful night time pilgrimage to the saint's hermitage which starts at eleven in the evening in the central square. The participants carry lanterns and oil torches which are raised in the air creating circles of fire. In the hermitage, before the dance in the Jordana fountain, the participants are anointed with the oil of a torch which, according to the tradition, was lit in 1600 by the saint, protecting the townsfolk from a terrible plague
