“Can food heal?” is a question that more people are considering. The only way that we can be certain that the vegetables, cereals, fruits and foods we consume are quality assured, is to purchase food from an organic farm. Now, the residents of Ontinyent and local towns can buy organically produced food at the Municipal market in Ontinyent.
Agriculturist, Enric Tortosa and the manager of the cooperative, Pepa Conde offer a full selection of fruit, vegetables, cereals and dairy products at the market. The farm was created in Alberic in 1999 by an association of consumers who wanted to buy healing foods and later became a cooperative, open to the general public. The produce is guaranteed to be totally fresh from harvest to the point of sale. Ecological agriculture does not use chemical agents in any of the growing or rearing processes and produces more nutritious food than with conventional methods. The association reveals that a tomato grown in the traditional manner is 3 parts water and only one part food, whereas a tomato grown organically reverses these statistics.
Besides Ontinyent, you can also purchase food from this cooperative from markets in Alberic, Navarrés and Valencia. All sell fruit and vegetables, cereals, milk, cheese, eggs or tofu. The store is open Friday and Saturday during the morning, but food can be ordered by telephone (962442493) or by visiting www.aiguaclara.org. |
