Camping Alegría del Mar in Benicarló is a small family run campsite, 150 metres from the sea, just ten minutes walk from the impressive new marina and within easy walking distance of Benicarló town centre. The popular resort of Peñiscola, one of the most famous places in Spain due to its papal history is just 6km away. Owners Richard & Julie, originally from Leicester are now entering their 25th season having purchased the campsite in 1986. Since then there have been many changes, the site has been extended, reformed and more facilities have been added and now the whole family are involved in the day to day running of the campsite. Richard told us ‘Our two eldest daughters Lisa and Katie where only 4 and 6 when we purchased the campsite, our third daughter Cleo was born in Tortosa, Spain in 1989. We now have two son in laws Raúl from León, Moi from Peñiscola and our third daughters partner Nisio is from Benicarló, their involvement in the campsite has the advantage of bringing several different cultures and customs, which all adds to the ambiance’. And of course we must not forget the most recent additions to the family, Brian 30 months and John 18 months, ‘Richard is particular thrilled to have two Grandsons’, said Julie. Along with all the facilities you would expect, Camping Alegría del Mar has a popular Bar - Restaurant (also open to public) with terrace and swimming pool where many organised activities are held.
You can enjoy an evening at the disco or if you are a bit of a crooner there are regular karaoke evenings. The live music nights are always popular and if you are lucky you may get to see local X-Factor Celeb, the lovely Daniel Evans, who puts on a fantastic performance.
The paella and barbecue days are not to be missed and if you are looking ahead for something special for Christmas 2010, there is a full Christmas program. If you are competitive why not take part in the Petanca competition, while the children are occupied in the organised sports events. And if all that wasn’t enough there are also Spanish classes for those of you keen to learn the local lingo. Julie and Richard said ‘We are campers and we know from our travels that there are very few campsites with the personal touch that we like to provide at Camping Alegría del Mar ’. Camping Alegria has some thing for everyone, whether you are looking for long term residential to a single night stay or a great evening out with friends and family.
