MORE INFORMATION ON RESETTING YOUR SKY BOX OR SKY HD BOX
By Chris Hallamore
After the Gota Fria I received many calls from folk who had lost the signal on their Sky Box. Most users have simple instructions on how to reset the box when the box displays no signal being received or the box is searching for channels with no results.
Firstly, I think it is useful to know why this problem occurs. After a power cut, the box resets to original settings. When your boot your sky box, the tuner connects with the satellite using the default frequency of 11788 and downloads the software required for the program guide using the remote control. If the box, can not tune into this frequency, the box will go no further in finding channels and displays “no signal being received”.   Therefore we have to reset the box to the stronger signal of 12129. Sometimes even though there is indeed a strong signal on 11788 changing the frequency to 12129 does the trick.
Please note setting the default transponder to 12129 does not make the BBC channels stay on any longer in the evenings. After resetting the frequency to 12129 it is normal after a few hours for this frequency to revert to 11788
IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM FIRST CHECK TO SEE IF THERE IS A CORRECT DATE AND TIME ON THE BOX
This is the most important information in this article, if the box has received the software from the default transponder it will show the correct date and English time on the box and the box does not need to be reset. However If your box doesn’t have a date or time it will not work until the box is reset.
RE-SETTING THE SKY BOX
STEP ONE
Turn the power off by removing the black cable at the back of the digi box. Wait a few seconds and plug it in. Turn the box on with the remote - until the box shows a green light, not a red one.  Check once again to see if there is a correct date and time on the box. If there’s no date and time proceed to step two.
STEP TWO
A.       Press the Services Button.
B.       Press, in succession but without pausing, 4, 0, 1 and Select. You should now be in the Installer's Menu.
C.        Press 2 - Default Transponder.
D.       Press the red button to reset all settings
E.        Select the Frequency (GHz) box line and type in 12129 (the default is 11778). Don’t change the other settings. Scroll down to Save New Settings and press Select. This will bring you back to the Installers Menu.
F.        Press Back Up Three Times.
G.       Check to see if there is a correct date and time on the box. if the date and time have not appeared try again using these frequencies 12441, 12051 or 12207
H.       Your screen should now display "Searching for Listings".  Wait a couple of minutes for channel 998 to "come in". The process is now complete, and you should be able to select the channel of your choice
STEP THREE
If there is still no date and time, do a “forced software upgrade” as follows:
A.       Remove the viewing card from the machine. Using a dry soft cloth, clean the gold connector on the card. Do not use any cleaning products.
B.       Whilst holding down the BACKUP key on the Digibox – NOT ON THE REMOTE – Turn the power off by removing the black cable at the back of the digi box. Wait a few seconds and plug it in again and keep holding down the back up key until the four lights on the Digibox light up and the screen displays a "UPGRADING SYSTEM SOFTWARE" message. If this message doesn’t appear but the four lights on the digi box are lit up don’t worry, the software is being downloaded.
C.        Wait 10 to 20 minutes for the software to download and install. On completion of the software download, the box will turn off.
D.       Insert the sky card and turn the box on with the remote and Check once again to see if there is a correct date and time on the box.
After a forced software update the default transponder will be 11788. These forced software updates can solve other problems but I suggest seeking professional advice before this step.
HOW TO RESET THE SKY HD BOX
A.       It is the same as above except that to enter the installers menu Press the Services Button, Press, in succession 0, 0, 1 and Select You should now be in the Installer's Menu.
B.       In a previous article I mentioned that the default transponder should be 12460  I now find that the frequency 12129 works perfectly on sky hd boxes
Until next time
