Reduce the Cost of your Telefonica bill - get the best Tariffs on you Mobile

and find out about the cheapest way to call a UK Land Line from your Mobile. 

How many of you have just walked in off the street to a mobile phone shop, purchased a pay as you go phone and have continued to accept those original non competitive call charges ?.

Competition is fierce between mobile phone and land line service providers and there are many offers which could save you money on every call you make in the future. I will be covering topics each issue on of how to obtain the most cost effective call packages from Telefonica and mobile phone providers when making calls in Spain and overseas.

Let’s start with a couple of money saving tips for Telefonica. Check your bills, you may have been paying rental of 3.50€ or more + I.V.A every month unnecessarily for years for a domo phone - you can purchase a telephone outright very cheaply. What about that monthly charge for a virus protection of up to 6€ + I.V.A that you do not use or need. Contact Telefonica if you want them to remove these charges.

CHEAPEST 8 HOURS OF CALLS TO UK LAND LINE

MOVISTAR USERS

If you use your mobile to call a UK landline then you will be paying around 30€ an hour.

A standard rate Movistar call to a U.K landline is 0.58 cents a min + connection charge of 0.58 cents which works out to 35 euros for 1 hour and 280.00€ for 8 hours.

With a 10€ Powercall International calling card and the “Mi Gente” pre -select numbers installed on your phone (see below how to do this) the total cost for 8 hours will be around 36€

VODAFONE USERS

A Standard rate Vodafone call to the U.K Vodafone mobile to U.K landline

between 0800 – 20.00hrs is 0,50 cents per min  + 35 cents connection + i.v.a so 8 hours will cost you around 240€.

With a Powercall card and the Vodafone “Vitamina” tariff set up (please see below how to do this) it will cost you just 1.72€ for a 60 min call to a U.K Landline.

That’s less than 16€ for 8 hours

Now you are asking how this can be possible and why is there a variation in the costs.

I shall try and explain. Your phone calls are being routed through to the Powercall telephone network. In order to do this you first have to be put though to their local Spanish number. This connection is charged by your telephone provider.

So the variation depends on what your company charge for a local call per minute and their connection charge. This is why it is important for Movistar users to set up the “Mi Gente” pre -select number before using the card because by doing so you immediately reduce the cost of the initial local call rate of around 60 cents per min  to 5 cents per min. Once connected your call to UK is though your credit on your Powercall phone– which will give you 8 hours of talk time to UK Land Lines, 30 mins to a mobile in U.K & Western Europe depending on the provider, but  480 mins to a U.S.A or Canada mobile.

So it’s that simple,

The information below is very important if you use phone cards. But it will save you money as well on your local calls.

VODAFONE OFFERS 2 MONEY SAVING TARIFFS:

The standard tariff is 0.35 cents + I.V.A per minute – Yes per minute. But if you change tariff to one of the two options below you will only pay 0.35 cents + I.V.A for a 60 minute call.

“Vitamina 60x1 24h”- enables you to call any Spanish landline or Vodafone mobile number for a total charge of 0.35 cents (+I.V.A) for a 60 minutes call at anytime. To obtain this enter in your mobile * 135 *01 # and press send – Vodafone will reply with a message confirming the change has taken place.

Vitamina 60x1 Todos” – You can talk for 60 minutes through any other mobile or landline operator within Spain between 18.00 hrs and 08.00hrs Mon – Fri and at anytime on Saturday and Sunday. The total charge for this is also 0.35 cents + I.V.A. To obtain this enter in your mobile * 135 *02 # and press send – Vodafone will reply with a message confirming the change has taken place.

 Do not exceed 60 minutes on your call otherwise you will be charged at the normal per minute rates. This service change is free and this service is cost effective when using along side a quality phone cards.

MOVISTAR CUSTOMERS – SAVE MONEY WITH THE “MI GENTE” SERVICE.

 Normal charges within Spain will be one of the following; all charges listed below are in Cents: Calls to other Movistar users 17.4 cents establishment charge + 5.8 cents per min. (I.V.A incl).

Type 1 – Calls to Landline and other mobile phone providers an establishment charge of 17.4 cents plus 68.4 cents per min. (excluding “Yoigo”)

 Or Type 2 – To “Yoigo” phones 72.7 cents + establishment charge.

With ¨Mi Gente¨ service, customers can call 4 selected Movistar numbers, plus one other network and one landline number for 5.8 cents (I.V.A Inc) a minute plus the establishment charge of 17.4 cents per min I.V.A Inc.

So select your “Mi Gente” numbers making sure you list the Powercall number of 917713461 as your selected land line number, the rest you put down those people who you call in Spain most often who also have Movistar numbers.

To obtain “Mi Gente”  dial 609 (Movistar customer services- it’s free). If you don’t speak Spanish then first dial 4431 and press option 1 and the next time you talk to customer services they will speak to you in English (Movistar make a one off charge of 1 euro for this). Provide them with the selected telephone numbers. Remember to write down the numbers first and include the phone card land line number if you use one; be ready to give them to the operator.

ORANGE CUSTOMERS - A TARIFF IS OFFERED CALLED “NUMEROS FREQUENTES”

Without this tariff normal charges (I.V.A not incl) apply within Spain and are based on a minimum spend of 10€ per month. Most Orange pre pay phones are set up on “Mi Tiempo Libre” Tariff – charges below:

Mon – Fri  -0800- 1700hrs = 55 cents per min + establishment charge 15 cents + I.V.A and 1700hrs- 0800hrs & weekends anytime = 10cents per min + establishment charge 15 cents + I.V.A 

A 50% reduction on these calls can be made if you request the “Numeros Frequentes” service. A charge is made of 1€ per month for each Orange or Landline number or 2 Euros per month for each Movistar or Vodafone number chosen.

As with all companies, offers can change and it is wise to checkout your existing tariff. From my own experience I have found that even some of the operators may not be aware of their own products and offers.

PHONE CARDS

Once you have prepared your mobile phone as above, you will be able to purchase 8 hours of call time to the U.K from your mobile phone, landline or public telephone for just 10€ - remember the total cost to you will always be plus your providers charges but the phone card will be debited only by the minutes used.
