Monaco mayhem
Lewis Hamilton won an incident packed Monaco Grand Prix after surviving a crash barrier collision. The young driver won F1’s most prestigious race, McLarens second consecutive win at the track. Hamilton’s rear tyre puncture worked in his favour allowing him the chance to refuel and change tyres, delaying a final pit stop until he was streets ahead of his closest rival, BMW’s Robert Kubica. Felipe Massa managed to squeeze a podium position in the Ferrari and unfortunately Force India's Adrian Sutil lost fourth place in a late collision with Raikkonen. Force Indian retired from the race and Raikkonen managed to finish ninth after fitting as new nose cone. The teams now travel across the Atlantic for round seven at the Mosport Track in Toronto. The questions at the moment is can Lewis Hamilton win his second consecutive race at the track in Canada? Will Max Mosely be around by the time this paper is printed? Will Jean Todt, Gerhard Berger, former long-time DaimlerChrysler chief Professor Jürgen Hubbert or more bizzarely French Prime Minister François Fillon fill Mosely’s shoes? Will Renault quit F1 after a recent rough patch? All will become clear over the next few weeks. Next race Toronto, June 8th.
Its a long way to... Wembley Well I am surprised, I thought the phones would have been ringing off the hook with all you footie fans only too quick to point out the error in the last issue. In my FA Cup tribute to the mighty P.F.C the headline read “Play Up Pomey!” no, not a typo! It was a tribute to Paul Erridge from Australia who travelled the 10,541 miles with 60 Pompey fans to Wembley to see his beloved team lift the Cup. Paul, social secretary for New South Wales P.F.C Down Under, travelled the long haul flight with his fellow fans, all of whom were carrying inflatable kangaroos…nice!
The headline was only slightly ruined by the fact that I didn’t put the editorial and pictures in! DOH! What can I say….sorry!
A quick mention before the Pompey glory fades into the distance. Dad, stop smiling, if the wind changes you look like that forever! Now I promise not to mention it again.

Super Aguri dropped out of championship following Spanish Grand Prix because of lack of money. Positions after Monaco Grand Prix
FC BARCELONA GOES ALL OUT FOR ALVES, HLEB & CACERES. GIOVANI TO LEAVE.
FC Barcelona wishes to make significant advances in their desires to get over to "Camp Barça" three players that are vital pieces for the upcoming new project for next season: Dani Alves, Hleb & Caceres, according to daily "Sport". The three mentioned players have their respective negotiations in "slow mode" & Barcelona wants to accelerate things to close proceedings in the next 7 days. FC BARCELONA Mexican youngster GIOVANI DI SANTOS is on the verge of signing with English Premier League Club TOTTENHAM HOTSPURS for 8 M€. Its believed the deal maybe done in the coming hours or days.
EURO 2008 WARM UP: SPAIN 2 - PERU 1 – “ORDINARY”
SPAIN played an International friendly warm-up game recently against PERU & won 2-1. However, the main word is ORDINARY. If what SFS saw is the level that we will see, then Spain will not win the tournament & may even not reach the quarter finals. INTER MILAN HAS BOTH DIARRA & SAMUEL ETO´O ON THEIR AGENDA
Italian Champions INTER MILAN - with possible new coach Mourinho - wish to jump a level in quality to make a definitive assault on the European Cup next season. To help do that, the Italians look to strengthen the midfield & the forward line with World class players. According to Sp. daily"Marca" Inter has its eyes on two Spanish based "cracks" that they already have made offers for. For the midfield, REAL MADRID Mali International DIARRA is their Nº1 choice & have offered 30M€ to the Spanish Club. Real Madrid has already said that they count on Diarra for next season & will not sell, plus the player himself wishes to stay at Real. However, with Real Madrid after Manchester Utd Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, they may need to sell to get the cash needed to invest in Ronaldo. SFS believes that the key behind Diarra going to Inter lies with whether Ronaldo decides to take up Madrid offer or not. It’s a definite possiblity one cannot disregard. The other name for FC BARCELONA forward is SAMUEL ETO´O with 30M€ being put on the table. The offer could rise to 40M€ if another Barça player DECO is included. However Barça has asked around 65M€ for both, big cash in anyone’s language. We will need to wait & see how the Italian team reacts. ATLETICO DE MADRID & FC BARCELONA NEWS 2008
According to Sp.daily "Mundo Deportivo" & Cadena Ser, ATLETICO DE MADRID may have its 3rd signing for the next season tied up. It´s 27 year old OPORTO midfielder PAULO ASSUNCAO SILVA & the Spanish club has offered 3 seasons with an option to extend a further year. The new FC BARCELONA coach Pep Guardiola is busy setting up the "new look" Barça for next season. Mundo Deportivo published the possible pieces to the jigsaw puzzle... These are the mentioned names: Valdez, Abidal, Martin Caceres, Puyol, Alves, Toure, Keita, Xavo or Hleb, Iniesta o Silva, Messi & Adelbayor. Plenty of speculations here as you can see.
Moving away from football slightly as mention this issue must go to Alberto Contador.
CYCLING: CONTADOR WINNER OF IL GIRO DI ITALIA 2008
ALBERTO CONTADOR has put Spanish cycling back on the map this year after winning "Il Giro Di Italia" yesterday. The 25 year old become the second Spaniard to win the Italian classic after Miguel Indurain. Last years Tour De France winner was outstanding throughout the whole cycling classic with many hailing the "youngster" as the new Indurain - big shoes to fill but undoubtely very talented.
Congratulations from SFS!
See you in 2 weeks!

The second leg of the Gender Trophy was played at El Cid on Friday 30th May. You may judge from the title that it is a men's versus ladies match played over two legs in a competitive but friendly spirit. The ladies carried a 9 shot lead into this game from the first leg with all
sorts of threats about lack of meals being cooked and other rights being withdrawn if the men won. This intimidation was ignored with the men winning the second leg by 33 shots giving an overall win of 24 shots thereby retaining the trophy. One can only conclude the men will be on short rations in all departments! Before the start of the game a spider was held with Pamela Whitmee winning. The author's bowl was so far away he never saw what the prize bottle was. The previous Sunday was the President, John Dugdale's birthday and his wife
Mavis generously donated tappas and wine after the game which was enjoyed by everyone including a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday in thanks.

Source Rooney to pay up
Everton manager David Moyes will receive an undisclosed amount after he won a libel case against Manchester United star, Wayne Rooney. Moyes claims parts of Rooney's autobiography "My Story So Far", "injured his professional and personal reputation" and caused him distress. Moyes objected to the account of how Rooney came to leave Everton and sign for Manchester United. Mr Moyes said he was glad that his name "had been fully cleared in this matter" after the hearing. The undisclosed sum will be paid by Rooney, co-author Hunter Davies and publisher HarperCollins.
St Helens to face Leeds in semis
St Helens will face favourites Leeds in the Carnegie Challenge Cup semi-finals.
Wakefield, have reached the last four for the first time since 1979, face Hull in the other semi-final. Wakefield boss John Kear’s chances of making history by guiding three different clubs to Challenge Cup final triumph are increased with the semi finals.
Kear said: "I wanted anybody but Leeds. It's a good draw for us but I'm sure Hull will be delighted as well." St Helens have won 13 successive ties and lifted the trophy at Twickenham in 2006 and at the new Wembley in August.
Capello concerned for squad
According to England coach Fabio Capello some of his players failed to perform to their potential in the friendlies against USA and Trinidad and Tobago. The England squad beat the Americans 2-0 before travelling to Trinidad to complete the week with a 3-0 win.
Capello told BBC Sport in a recent interview "I've learnt a lot over the last 10 days,"
"I have learnt some players are good in training but not so good when it comes to the game." The Italian continued that he was, however impressed with the squads attitude.
"I'm happy because it's not easy for the players to finish the season and then play away," he added. "All the players did everything that I asked of them." Capello would not comment on the possible starting 11 for the World Cup qualifiers in Andorra later this year.
Beijing dream over
British heptathlete Jessica Ennis was forced to pull out of an IAAF event last weekend with a stress fracture to her right ankle and will miss the Beijing Olympics. The 22-year-old said "I'm obviously upset with the results and I'm gutted to be missing out on my first Olympics." "Injury is part of a heptathlete's life - I'm determined to make a recovery."
Ennis was tipped for a medal at the 2008 Olympics after finishing fourth at the World Championships in Osaka. Her Olympic medal hopes will have to be put on hold until London 2012.
New 100m world record set
A new 100 metres world record has been set by Usain Bolt at the Reebok Grand Prix meeting in New York. The 21-year-old Jamaican beat Asafa Powell’s record by 2 tenths of a second, clocking up 9.72 seconds. Bolt, 6ft 5in, amazed the fans when he took the second fastest 100m time on May 3rd, 9.76 seconds and just over 3 weeks later he took the world record.
Javea Green Bowls Club – Weekly Round Up with Alan Phillips
Sponsored by MATRIX 35 finance The return match in the Kings Cup between the Javea Green and Javea Blue teams, was finally played on the morning of the 28th and it soon became evident that the Javea Green team which had lost the first match 9-6, was out for revenge! Both the men’s singles and ladies singles were hard fought, with each match extending well past 20 ends. After a rather hesitant start that saw Blues Captain Ken Davey, trailing 14-1, he made a comeback that he is renowned for and levelled the score at 15-15, only to see Alan Phillips move away again and win the match 21-16
The ladies singles was neck and neck from the start and on the 16th end Pauline Anderton and Margaret Bunbury were locked at 14-14, it was on the 24th end that Margaret sealed the match and was victorious 21-17. Well done to all of the singles players, great games to watch.
At this early stage of the match Javea Greens were 2-0 up.
It was a similar story on the other greens, with the Green Team nudging ahead early in the games. The pairs saw Sheri Fletcher and Carol Davey play well against the formidable opposition of Brian Manser and Harry Chick, but trailing 10-4 after 7 ends was too much to recover. The Rinks followed the same pattern and a 10-3 lead in 6 ends, was enough for the strong team of Clive Corbin, Barry Elms, Derek Eldon & Nick Bunbury to safely negotiate the closing ends.
The Blue Trips of Janet Neale, Brian Collins & Trevor Neale, salvaged 3 points for their team with a commanding 21-11 victory. I understand that Trevor had an outstanding game at Skip, making the most of the opportunities that were presented to him.
Congratulations to Brian Manser for a convincing win for the Green Team, it will be interesting to follow both teams through the summer as they both have won 1 match to date.
The “annual” South versus North Winter League Challenge match was played at the home of Winter League Champions Greenlands on Friday and Javea Green provided 2 teams. Well done to Margaret Bunbury, Jim Fletcher, Dennis Sperden & Nick Bunbury and to Lynne Eldon, Alan Phillips, Derek Eldon & Sheri Fletcher, both teams completed narrow victories.
This Wednesday sees the start of the Matrix 35 Finance 3-2-1 competition and next Saturday, Margaret Bunbury & Joan Moss and Alan Phillips & Derek Eldon travel to Emerald Isle to represent the Club in the Federation controlled Champion of Champions Pairs events. We wish them all good luck.
Enjoy your bowling.
