In April, Branch members had a trip to Torrevieja where they visited the patrol boat, the submarine and then enjoyed a guided tour around the Museo del Sal y Mar. The exhibits in the Museum were superb and members marvelled at the boats encrusted in salt. Descending into the hull of the submarine caused much mirth but hearing that 56 men lived there at any one time, brought it home to us the hot and cramped conditions that existed.
Then it was off to Mesón Villa Salada for a long lunch, then back on the coach. Another great day out. Our thanks go to Graham Knight and the Torrevieja Ayuntamiento for making all the arrangements for us.
At our Branch meeting we had a very interesting talk from Simon Baldock, who was with BBC local radio – Essex. He reminisced about the many celebrities he interviewed over the years and then treated members to a quiz identifying the various personalities.
Our photo shows Wendy, who organised our trip, receiving a plaque from the Director of the Museo de Sal y Mar.
