Dear Editor, I have recently moved to Spain with my husband and 3 children aged 12, 8, and 4. I am concerned as to how we are going to cope as far as schooling goes. Although the kids seem to be doing ok I have to admit I feel rather anxious. I am sure there must be other mothers out there who feel the same or have been through the process and wondered if there were any groups on clubs where families can meet, discuss and support one another. Hopefully someone may read my letter and contact you if they have an such group or network set up. Inland Trader has been an invaluable source of information since we have arrived. Many thanks Mrs Hutchinson Response from the editor As a mother I can understand you concerns, and have suffered as most parents do the guilt trips, frustration and concerns over children, schooling and integration into a new society. I think the idea of a mothers support would be a great idea, especially with the influx of younger families moving here over the last few years. Possibly there may be website support already set up, which I am unaware off, or regular groups that meet. if any one knows of any such group please contact me so we can make more people aware. Regards Lou Dear editor Just wondered if the Yelmo in Ontinyent are still showing movies in English, only I haven’t seen anything in the paper recently. I have been back in the Uk for a couple of months and wondered if things had changed, hope not as I really enjoyed being able to enjoy the cinema experience again, nothing quite like a big box of pop corn and the big screen. Cheers Charli Hi Charli Yes, Yelmo in Ontinyent continues to show movies in English, the day changed from a Tuesday to a Wednesday a few months back, the full schedule can be viewed on the Trader website www.inlandtraderonline.com Regards Lou Dear Editor I am aware that many of us living here have lost our rights to Disability Living Allowance previously awarded for life in the U.K. Your readers may be interested in the latest information that I have been given from the benefit agency in Newcastle this week. I have been informed that an “exportation of benefits” department has been formed and they are hoping to begin issuing letters explaining all claimants positions within the next 3 weeks and hoping that their solicitors will have definitive answers to who is entitled or not entitled within the next 3 months. Claimants who are successful will receive the benefit in full including any payments previously not paid. It is already stated that only the care component of the award will be considered and the mobility component will not be paid. Their web site quotes this : “Disability Benefits (European Court of Justice): Following a European Court of Justice ruling in October Disability Living Allowance (care component), Attendance Allowance and Carer’s Allowance can be paid to those who qualify but who currently live outside of the UK but within the European Economic Area and Switzerland. The DWP will publish staff guidelines in April to help determine the eligibility of claimants living abroad” So for those of you who consider that this benefit has been illegally stopped I would recommend that you write to the Disability Department and request that they re examine you case.
