FIESTAS IN HONOR OF VIRGEN DEL CASTILLO IN CULLERA

Celebrations in Cullera begin on the Saturday April 14^th and include a wide range of activities and parades. ‘La bajada de la Virgen’ marks the beginning of the week long celebrations. The ‘Virgin de la Encarnación’ remains in the Sanctuary of Cullera Castle all year and only is only taken out once a year during this week long celebration. These famous celebrations attract many visitors who meet at the San Antonio beach to watch fisherman and sailors of Cullera parade the effigy along the shoreline. Many fishing boats come close to the shore and fire rockets as dawn breaks. This year the popular Night of the Aurora is celebrated on the evening of April 21^st and continues until dawn. Bars and restaurants in the town remain open until the parade at dawn. Throughout the week long celebrations residents are woken each morning at 8am by fireworks.

April 13^th 7.30pm - “CULLERA DANCES” Plaza España, C/ la Sequia, Patio de la Iglesia, C/Antonio Renart, Plaza España.
April 14^th
1.30pm – “Mascletada”at the Casa de la Enseñanza followed by “CULLERA DANCES” Dances of Cullera in Plaza España and local bands parade from Casa Consistorial.
8pm – Official opening of the photograph exhibition at the Casa Consistorial.
9pm - Procession ‘La bajada de la Virgen’ accompanied by local dancers followed by fireworks display and the transfer of the Virgin to the Virgen a la Iglesia de los Santos Juanes.
April 15th

10.30am - Parade of Bands from Plaza España to the market.

11am - First Hearing of the National Contest of Bands “Ciutat de Cullera”

4pm - Parade of Bands from Plaza España to the market.

4.30pm - Second Hearing of the National Contest of Bands “Ciutat de Cullera”.

5pm – Children Fair in the Raval district (Calle Alboraya) and San Antonio (Av. Blasco Ibañez)
10pm - VARIETES with “Maria de Monte and Manolito Royo” in Calle Alboraya.

April 16^th

5am - ROSARY OF the AURORA OF the RAVAL of San Agustín.

Mascletada and Mass in Calle Valencia

8am – Fireworks

11am - Solemn Greater Mass in the Parish of Saints Juans.

1.30pm - GREAT MASCLETADA in Boulevard San Isidr followed by parade of bands. 9pm - GENERAL PROCESSION ending with fireworks display.

April 17^th

1pm - Heifers in the Suburb of San Agustín.

5pm – Childrens Fair the Gardens of the Market.

11.30pm - Musical performance by “Bertçin Osborne” in Passeig Doctor Alemany.

April 18^th

1pm - Heifers in the Suburb of San Agustín.

5pm - Infantile park in the district of the Port (Calle Ausias March)

7pm – Local Waiters Race in Paseo Dr Alemany.

9pm - TRANSFER of the VIRGIN to the District of the Port, ending with a fireworks display.

11.30pm - “Seine fishings embolats” at Raval of San Agustín.

April 19^th

1pm – Bulls in the San Agustín area.

5pm – Childrens Fair Gardens of the Market.

10pm - Theater at the House of the Culture Reserve seats at the Casa de Cultura

11.30pm - CONCERT of `Malu', in Paseo Doctor Alemany.

April 20^th

1pm – Bulls in the San Agustín area.

7pm - GREAT CAVALCADE OF DISGUISES leaves from the Raval.

11.30pm - DANCE OF DISGUISES in the Gardens of the Market with orchestral performances.

April 21^st

1pm - Bulls in San Agustín area.

2pm - XXVII AID OF RICE TO LOCAL BAND, in Enrique Chulio.

5pm - In the Market Auditorium clowns, painting and balloon modelling.

7pm - In the Santa Cecilia Auditorium concert of the Rondalla of Santa Cecilia and municipal School perform music.

7.30pm - Performance at the Casa de Cultura of the international choir “Allegro” in aid of the Ghana missions.

11.30pm – Music from orchestra “STREET 45”, at the Plaza de la Constitución.

April 22^nd

NIGHT OF AURORA

4.30am – Leaves from the Consistorial House of the Municipal Corporation to the Church of the Saints Juans followed by the transfer of the Virgin to the San Antonio beach.

5am - ROSARY OF the AURORA, Mass at Marine Paseo followed by fireworks display. 8am – Fireworks

1.30pm - “MASCLETADA” in Calle Riu. Parade of the Bands Santa Cecilia and Musical Ateneu of Cullera, from the Consistorial House to the Church of the Saints Juans.

9.30pm - Procesional ASCENT of the image of the Virgin of the Castle to the Sanctuary.
