Mind Body & Spirit By Suzy Hutchinson -Stoyle
Ihave been asked , by a couple of readers, to explain a little more about Reiki – what it is, what it does, and how one can learn to become a Reiki Healer.
Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key), was rediscovered in the late 1900’s by a Japanese Buddhist Priest, Dr. Mikao Usui. It is an ancient hands-on healing system based on channelling the Universal Life Force Energy – it is gentle, yet powerful. The energy heals on all levels – physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. A treatment can last up to an hour and a half,
and the receiver remains fully clothed.
Reiki can be combined with any other complimentary therapy to further enhance their healing effects. It moves energy ‘blocks’ and balances out the system, it clears toxic waste accumulated in the body and helps clear emotional issues – leaving you feeling lighter and more balanced. You do not have to be experiencing any illness or particular health problems to receive Reiki, it can be wonderfully relaxing and can give you an energy boost also. It is a very simple, natural and safe healing method that brings about a wide range of healing benefits.
There are several off-shoots of the Original Usui Reiki: Usui Shiki Ryoho, Johrei, Seichem,Karuna, Radiance, Tera-Mai, Tibetan and possibly many others, all of which have descended from the traditional Reiki and have been developed by their respective
Master/Teachers.
Being initiated into Reiki is a powerful spiritual experience, although how it is experienced will vary from person to person, as the energy adjusts within each individual.
The attunement creates a permanent energetic channel in your energy body, through which Reiki (and only Reiki) can flow. At the end of each attunement, the Master ‘seals’ the channel, so from then on you have your own direct connection with Reiki, and no longer need to have it channelled through the Master. With each level of attunement, you become able to tap into a higher, wider channel of Reiki healing energy, and the vibrationary rate of your energy body is increased. Most people go through a shift in their awareness because Reiki is guided by a Higher Intelligence, and so adjusts to an individual’s needs.
There are many Teachers of Reiki and many Schools offering tuition and attunements. As it is a sacred initiation, I would always recommend that sufficient research is carried out to find the most suitable Teacher for you. A recommendation is always a good pointer, but we all have a different energy vibration, so using your intuition is advisable when looking for suitable Teacher.
When looking for a Master to take the Second Degree (or further), you may find that you are‘drawn’ to looking in another direction – go with your intuition and gut-feeling –as the First Degree opens your spiritual channel, you may find that your initial source doesn’t feel quite right for your advancement.
Being attuned to Reiki is very beneficial for your own person, as you are able to do selfhealing, treat others, and also send the healing energy whilst absent from a person. It is all about ‘intent’ – when you have the ‘intention’ to send healing to someone then the energy flows. The healing energy can be given to humans and animals alike. It can also be sent to Mother Earth for healing, and also to where there is conflict, war, terror, and negative energies.
I have received an email, from a reader, with a question about how to begin developing intuition and the sixth sense. Initially I would recommend that a starter point would be to find some books that interest you, on this topic. You may also find it helpful to talk
to people who are developing their spiritual gifts, or to anyone that may hold classes and
workshops that are related. We all possess the ability to channel healing energy, and communicate with the spiritual realms – it is our birth-right, but over the years
our spiritual ‘doors’ may close because of a lack of knowledge and fear. It is then our personal choice to re-discover and open these ‘doors’, and today it is more widely acceptable to be more open and spiritually aware, there is less of
a Taboo on things of this nature.
We can see this in the media – there are many programmes now on TV which discuss matters of a spiritual and psychic nature – not all are helpful and positive! But, none-the-less, are quite interesting, and are taking the fear out ofthe things that are unknown.
Thank you to those readers who have takenthe time to email, I am only happy to help!
