  ASTROLOGY EXPLAINED

This week I have received a letter from TC, a sun-sign Virgo who is expecting her second child in September. She wants to know how the balancing of home, family and children are going to pan out as she intends to return to work. Looking at her birth-chart and  her predictive chart for the months of September, October and November this year I can see:
Your due date is the 27th September and if it arrives on this day he or she will have the same moon sign as you, almost to the same degree. If he or she arrives before or after this date he or she will have the same Mercury, Venus and Mars sign as you, which indicates that you will be psychically in tune with your newborn, which could be a mini-me of you.  As regarding your query which focuses on work and career it is this area which is highlighted. You will have definite goals that you will set your sights on and friends and family will be fully supportive and helpful. Your creativity is highlighted as you have some artistic talent that has possibly been latent, but you will have opportunities to expand this and prove yourself. You have many practical qualities, but a creative and intuitive vision will come into force. This is something that you have always had, but haven’t really listened to until now. It is very important that you listen to your inner voice. Take notice of your dreams and chase them. You will have a fantastic opportunity coming your way at the end of the year which means you may travel or expand in some way. Round about November many of your personal signs are in the 12th House. This is traditionally a house of endings and can mean issues confinement and restriction come to the fore that you will need to address. Also it is very important that you communicate your feelings with those you are closest to you. By 2007 you will have made anew creative start. Regarding the home there may be opportunities to make money or expand in some way, but you will always have your sights set on the future. You will be very driven by goals which you will set out to achieve.

Mercury
This week I am going to focus on Mercury which is the next sign in the solar system after the sun and moon. Traditionally known as the “messenger”, it represents everything to do with communication. On a general level it rules publishing, writing and short journeys. On an individual level it governs our intellect. It is the planet of logic and of scientific enquiry. Whereas the moon rules our emotions and emotional responses Mercury, represents how we communicate, how we think, our mental dexterity, our logic and reasoning. Mercury is the ruler of the signs Virgo and Gemini, two signs which are well-known for their mental dexterity. Its nature is restless and is ready to conquer the new before it has finished with the old. It is a fast moving planet and takes 88 days to complete its orbit of the sun. However, Mercury does travel retrograde, (it appears to move backwards.) This is an illusory process as planets don’t really move backwards but this illusion does have an effect on us earthlings. Mercury in retrograde, means that anything connected with communication goes haywire. Appointments are missed, computers crash, journeys are delayed and there is the sense that we have little control over these mishaps. They are usually unavoidable and just things we have to grit our teeth and endure. The last Mercury retrograde was in Pisces from 2nd March -25th March 2006. Did anything frustrating happen to you then, which was connected with communication? Mercury has now stopped, or appeared to have stopped still in its direct station and things regarding communication won’t start improving until April 14th when it begins to move forward again. Which I am personally glad about, as I am flying to England on that day and I don’t fancy being delayed at Alicante airport. The next Mercury retrograde will begin on July 4th until July 29th this year. Mercury on average turns retrograde three times a year, but this is not a hard and fast rule. Mercury falls into the sign of Aries on April 17th. All planets except the sun and the moon turn retrograde. So what does Mercury in the signs mean? Like the moon it influenced by the zodiac sign it was in at the time of birth.

Mercury in Aries
You have a quick and decisive mind, your judgments are quick and you are always confident about them. You have no inclination to prevaricate and can be argumentative, but in saying that you are extremely good at arguing your point. You may at times be provocative and may lack concentration.

Mercury in Taurus
This has a reputation as being a bit of a plodding sign for Mercury to be in as your thought processes are slow and steady. That is not a bad thing as although you can be stubborn you know what you like and what you don’t like. Taurus is ruled by Venus and you have a love of beautiful flowing language. You have a love of slapstick humour and adopt a practical attitude in turning things to your advantage. So you are not so stupid after all?

Mercury in Gemini
Mercury rules Gemini so this is a natural placement. Mercury Geminians are very quick, inventive, and adaptable. Mentally they are original, with great powers of observation and they can thrive anywhere such is the adaptability of this placement. They are at ease with language and can communicate with virtually anyone. However they tend to lack endurance and may not finish projects that they have started. They are easily bored and do need constant mental stimulation.

Mercury in Cancer.
Mercury Cancerians are emotional and sensitive. Their thoughts are governed and sometimes clouded by their emotions. They can change their minds many times according to how they feel, but usually have a strong intuition which means that they excel in anything to do with psychic matters. They have a good memory and are interested in the past. In fact they can sometimes cling on to the past too much,

Mercury in Leo
This is I detrimental placement. Mercury Leos can have big-ideas, be pushy and dogmatic. Things are done in their own unique and indomitable style. However they are good organizers if they haven’t rubbed too many people up the wrong way. They have a strong will-power.

Mercury in Virgo
Like its bed fellow, Gemini Mercury in Virgo demonstrates a very good intellect with an eye fir detail. You exert a nervous energy and can get bogged down in detail as you are nit-picking and over-critical in analysis or studies. This is a very good placement for someone who wants to learn languages.

Mercury in Libra
Libra as always is a refined sign and the intellect in this sign highlights someone with an erudite knowledge of everything especially if it concerns the arts or music. Librans love balance and harmony, and are born diplomats. However, unlike its opposite sign Aries they can procrastinate and deliberate, because they see both sides of an argument.

Mercury in Scorpio
Mercury in Scorpio means that someone with this placement is on an eternal quest to get to the bottom of things. They are born investigators or researchers, and detest superficiality. They are passionate in speech, but can upset others by giving “pep talks” at their expense. They are secretive about themselves and are often accused of having suspicious natures.

Mercury in Sagittarius
Mercury sign Sagittarians are governed by freedom of thought. They think big and communicate in an optimistic way. They are forward thinking, but don’t always pay attention to the smaller details. They live in clutter due to their poor organizational skills, but are always interesting conversationalists. They can be direct, blunt and impatient.
Mercury in Capricorn
People with Mercury in this sign speak and write in a slow and methodical manner. Although they are very resourceful they like to deal with one thing at a time and do not like too much information thrown at them. They have an air of authority and will take on projects that will yield practical results. They dislike frivolity.

Mercury in Aquarius
People with this placement are unconventional in self-expression, and like to break the rules and shock. They like to expose bias and deliver other ways of thinking. They are good at debate, and sometimes can be intimidating. They are interested in science and metaphysics.

Mercury in Pisces
A Mercury Piscean is usually gentle and warm and influenced by their emotions. They are insightful, dreamy and moody. They can be constantly chatty or deafeningly quiet. They are sponges to the moods to others, dislike hard facts but have great vision.

Next week, Venus explained and what it means in the signs.
